I found it very difficult to relate Wenger and Prenskys theories, as initally they seem about two completely different ideas, But after thinking about it carefully i have realised that there are some similarities. For instance Wengers CoP is about learning, learning from people who are on your wave length and no trying to be above or the boss of you. Prenskys theory is about education in a world where there are two different types of people, digital immigrants and digital natives. So the main concept of both theories is learning. This can go deeper though, because the digital immigrants and digital natives, have to come to some sort of agreement, in which not one of them is better than the other, it is about adapting to each others needs and coming to a compromise. For instance digital immigrants have to understand that digital natives are developing in a different way to the way that the immigrants developed when they were younger. This means that the immigrants have to learn from the natives as well as visa versa, which is similar to what a community of practice is, everybody is learning from everybody to increase there knowledge.
Another underlying theme in both of the theories is the use of technology, Prensky maybe more than Wenger, but CoP can definatly develop more with the use of technology and communication through technology.
i am not sure whether this is correct or not, but these are the main points that i felt worked in favour of both articles and theories.

In a COP and in eduction there will always be people around you who are goin to have more knowlege and experience than you. Surely people should see this as a good thing as you can learn from theses people which will make you become better at it. Anyone agree?
Yes I totally agree but it isnt necessarily a hierachal thing, them having more experience than you, It just means they have some knowledge to pass onto you. Likewise you may have alot of interesting information from which they can learn from. Its a two way thing where both parties can grow from.
I think in groups there will obviously people who have more knowledge of a certain thing, but someone else might have more knowledge of something else and that is why it is not hierarchal.
Kayleigh,
Ok, I can see that you make some similarities between the two theories here and I think the points you make about different levels of experience all aiding learning is the key one.
All the best
Emma
